Why See Roger McGuinn?
The 50th Anniversary Of Sweetheart Of The Rodeo
Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Roger McGuinn's distinctive blend of folk-rock and penchant for brilliant song writing was not only the lifeblood of American Classic Rock icons The Byrds, but inspired his peers, from The Beatles to Tom Petty. Nothing says more about McGuinn's pioneering creative spirit than The Byrd's 1968 studio album 'Sweetheart Of The Rodeo', which played a pivotal role in the creation of the country rock genre. McGuinn is joined by Byrds co-founder Chris Hillman for their first concert series together in over 25 years, paying tribute to the seminal album this summer and fall.
Whilst considered a landmark record, "Sweetheart Of The Rodeo' was not initially embraced by fans as it was a departure from the Byrds' signature folk tendencies. It was a daring change of course that embraced country in all its Nashville glory and although it wasn't well received initially, it became a shining example of McGuinn's genius - he was just ahead of his time. It's now taken its place in rock history as one of Rolling Stones' Top 500 Albums of All Time. The ionic performer now celebrates the album's 50th anniversary and the incredible legacy its left behind.
